Being an entrepreneur myself, and having run a web development business for almost two decades, I have seen many ecommerce businesses come and go. And, with the statistics from the Small Business Administration that say up to 85% of all businesses have been failing within 18 months of starting, the odds are against entrepreneurs.
But there are steps entrepreneurs can take to better those odds.
Start by working on your business. There are five basic questions you can answer that could make a huge difference in the success of your endeavors. They are: Why are you doing what you are doing, what are your core values, what is your mission, what is your strategic vision, and what is your strategy? Working on your business, especially when starting out, is just as important as working in your business. That is why I have created a series of free webinar/workshops (I call them Webishops) to help entrepreneurs at www.webishops.com. These Success Planning Webishops help you to answer each of those five questions.
Introvert entrepreneurs, read my book Leadership for Introverts.
Fear is one of the most powerful motivators to humans. We “live in fear” sometimes, and advertisers know that producing fear can stimulate buying. the fear of scarcity is common in advertising.
But fear in life, or in business, is counterproductive. Fear will block success, and the path to success is overcoming those fears.
This article in Entrepreneur Magazine is a good read on how to overcome fear, but there are some things I would add:
Point 1: This is good, but in order to face your fears, you need to see the reality of them. Don’t change a Chihuahua fear into a Rottweiler fear (yes, I like dogs), and don’t change a Rottweiler fear into a Hound of Hell fear. See the fear for what it really is. Chances are, that fear is a lot smaller than it seems.
Point 2 is spot on, but point 3 is just an extension. However, a good thing to do is to occasionally step back. I have the habit of finding a direction, laying tracks, and going down that direction like a supersonic train. But, sometimes it’s the wrong direction. Take pit stops, and make sure you are still going the right direction.
Points 4 and 5 are excellent. Never give up. The only way to fail is to not try. Look for my #Webishop on this.
The turnout for the Timeless Search Engine Optimization Secrets Webishop this Tuesday was amazing! Due to so many people asking for it, I have set up another SEO Secrets Webishop for next week. Click here to find out more!
And, what a turn-out! I am already getting emails about it. Here are a few:
“I never seen this stuff before, I’m gonna be rich!” -David
“totally KOOL!” – Justin
“I am impressed with the amount of information while still considering our time. I am looking forward to watching the replay.” Annette
“Where are the free videos?” -Mark
I had an issue with my recording equipment so the free videos are being redone and will be available soon. Everyone who attended the Webishop will get an email as soon as they are available.
Thanks everyone for joining in!
P.S. I’m sorry if you were one of the people that signed up at the last minute. There was a glitch in the system that said you were in the webinar even when it was full. I’m working with the webinar people to fix that. You will be guaranteed a seat next week.
P.S.S. Seats are already filling up for the Webishop on Tuesday, sign up now!
